Ant mail bug: fixed

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 08:36, 14/9/2001 | , ,

The bug in the Ant Suite's mail transport means that messages posted using the internal mail mechanism - usually when posting from Marcel - loses the line feed between the header and the main body of the email, meaning that the resultant email would appear to be either blank or missing initial paragraph(s) on receipt.

The cause of the problem is that the Ant Suite adds a header to the outgoing mail, and recently this header has become longer than the space reserved for it, overwriting the line feed. People using some other mail programs with the Ant suite - such as Messenger and Pluto - won't have the same problem as they use their own transport mechanisms; but all email clients will have problems reading such a message. If you receive an email that appears to be blank or have had the top chopped off, and your email client has the capability of showing full headers, you may find that you can read the rest of the text that way.

The fix has been released by "The" Paul Vigay (sorry, no new photo), and is available from his website.
