R-Comp Upgrade Fest

Posted by Andrew Duffell on 16:17, 8/2/2005 | ,

rcompR-Comp has informed us of upgrades to three of their programs. These should arrive by email to users over the next few days.

NetFetch now contains the latest version of Hermes which is twice as fast at sending emails than previous versions. There is a new Hermes specific manual, and various new layouts allowing users more visual choice.

DialUp3 also contains the same Hermes enhancements.

messengerproMessenger Pro 3 has had a major update adding hierarchical (tree view) structure to newsgroups and folders. This allows you to better organise your messages, and keep your email display less cluttered. There is also some fixes and enhancements such as updating message lists "on the fly". R-Comp have also said that this is the first of a number of rolling updates for Messenger Pro.

It's always good to see software getting upgraded and enhanced - and these look like useful enhancements rather than bugfixes. Well done to RComp!

I'm still waiting for !Musicman to add the ability to update AcornCD with manually entered track data. As things stand it forgets all that effort the moment you take the CD out! That's not so bad if you are simply using it to make MP3s - but if you are actually playing CDs (perhaps because the sound quality is better.....) it just doesn't make sense. I do make MP3s to carry around - but prefer to play the actual CDs when I can.

Yeah, I've been impressed by Messenger Pro 3 as it is. It has loads more features to version 2, and the news that there are to be more is great!
Have you emailed R-Comp about that AcornCD feature request. I'm sure if users suggest things they will consider them. After all, it is through the users that they make their money :)

I would be tempted to use Hermes instead of Popstar with NetFetch if it would access all my email accounts
and not give unexplained error messages.
Perhaps this update will make this possible.

Does anyone know if Hermes support the Secure POP3 that G-Mail uses? That is the only problem I have ever encountered with PopStar, and the reason that I use Yahoo instead of G-Mail.
