"I desire no future that will break the ties with the past"
Nice sentiment, pity it uses 'java script' so anything from the past [ !ArcWeb, !Browse, !Fresco, !Netsurf, !Oregano,] can't actually see it !! Rage

Yes, because Wikipedia is always more reliable than a mere WHOIS, especially from people who have laterly appear to have taken to believing that "ACORN" is some sort of acronym.
Going by the name, I reckon that Maxouille is French and may possibly have some first hand info. In any case, the addition was original research and subsequently removed.

By that logic, I am part of RISC OS and get inside information about that! Or perhaps not, since I seem to be constantly too busy.

Only 78 days until the launch of the "Acorn Board".

[Edit: I make that 05 Oct 2012.]

Maybe, but if you do a search for the CEO, he appears to have (had) something to do with ARM, albeit a vague reference. This is what I found:

Alastair Anderson
CEO Acorn, Cambridge, United Kingdom | Computer Hardware
Current: Director at Lovely Peaches Ltd, CEO at Acorn (Cambridge) Ltd, Operations Intern at ARM Education: The University of Hull

There is a reference to him here: http://www.riscoscode.com/Pages/Item0117.html

Lovely Peaches ltd seems quite new too. Interesting choice of name there, I think...

Miss Lewinsky was as Intern at the White House, doesn't mean she had anything to do with running the country!

The contact and registered address is a holding address for 12,000 companies, Lovely Peaches has the same address and is listed as "Entertainment Industry"....doesn't take a lot of imagination there. It was registered with Companies House last month.

Acorn (Cambridge) Ltd has absolutely nothing to do with Acorn Computers and was registered in Nov 2011. The whole thing sounds like a front for someone caching in on the Pi success.

You'll have to forgive me for being slightly suspicious!

Only 78 days until the launch of the "Acorn Board".
The test page with the countdown has gone. The main page http://www.acorn.eu/ seems to become a web shop with no trace of RISC OS at all. Furthermore, the registrant of the domain is (again?) that french company, DATA ACCESS.

I guess this is the end of the story.

Interestingly, I get "We are currently performing some scheduled maintenance. We will be back as soon as possible. Please check back soon."

I can still browse the webshop categories though (one Mac and two monitors are in stock!). Curiously, the "MP3 Players" category lists the following items:

test 11 (0)
test 12 (0)
test 15 (0)
test 16 (0)
test 17 (0)

test 18 (0)
test 19 (0)
test 20 (0)
test 21 (0)
test 22 (0)

test 23 (0)
test 24 (0)
test 4 (0)
test 5 (0)
test 6 (0)

test 7 (0)
test 8 (0)
test 9 (0)

Yeah, I'd give up on this one, it's clearly going nowhere fast smile

Yes, right now it's just an empty template, probably the default template of this web shop software.

I clicked around a bit and interestingly, the twitter link leads to Alastair Anderson's tweets and the (empty, what else? wink) facebook page features the name "Acorn (Cambridge) Ltd.", Mr. Andersons company.

Maybe Acorn (Cambridge) is still on track and it's just an ill-chosen standard template.

UPDATE:
The standard shop catagories are now replaced by catagories like "Acorn board", "Acornsoft" etc.

Big news wink A minor change on their website's layout and the first tweet since 4th April:
Are you anticipating the launch of the new #AcornComputers website & Forums as much as we are. Not much longer now.
The timing suggests that it is really about jumping on the Raspberry Pi bandwagon.
Which doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Content at last! Ok, I stretch the definition of content a bit here, as it is just 5 paragraphs of vaguely formulated marketing blah, announcing a "program of projects" under the name Phoebe.

Their forum is said to be gone live as well and is following new Acorn's tradition of being empty, even the usual "Welcome" post is missing. At least the forum delivers a little bit of information: Both categories "32-Bit Acorns" and "RISC OS" are filed under "Vintage Acorn".

That suggests, whatever "Phoebe" is, RISC OS might not be part of it.

Enough crystal ball gazing for now. wink

Two less known facts: 1) Apple iPad is so expensive because of it's historical value. This value is generated by the usage of ARM technology. 2) ARM is an acronym for Antique Risc Machines. smile

Like Apple and ARM, I have not problem with using vintage technology, so I can deal with it.

My point was that by putting RISC OS (which means 32-Bit in the forseeable future) in the vintage category, the new Acorn made it quite clear that RISC OS isn't part of their "Phoebe" thing.

The Acorn team started development without a name prior to the public announcement of Raspberry Pi. Thre are a few similarities between Acorn (Cambridge) Ltd and Acorn Computers :
- ARM Processors
- RISC OS
- Brand (Can't forget that)
- Affinity for Vintage Acorn's (Acorn Computers)
- We're based in Cambridge

We do have a Remote Office in London that is indeed shared with others.

It does indeed sound like a 'porno studio" however the company develops and manages entertainment websites and currently has no Adult titles. The name 'Lovely Peaches' is easily remembered though isn't it.

RISC OS is important to Acorn and hopefully the Acorn Board shall be running either RISC OS 5 or an Acorn variant of RISC OS 5.

hello peeps,

has anyone seen the new page at http://www.acorncomputers.com/ ?

its just one page, but i wonder if theres more to come in the future?

-justin
Well good news or bad, it's nothing to do with me. In fact having a quick look at the Whois information shows that it is the same people behind Acorn (2006-2009).

It will be interesting to see what they have in store.
Acorn the Brand is owned by Data Access however the Licencee is Acorn (Cambridge) Ltd. We are a different company from the last one given that our technology is based on ARM Cores not Intel.

Huh? Am I having a blonde moment? As far as my recollection goes, the 2006 company was set up by someone called Sultan, based in Nottingham. The whois information I'm looking at for acorncomputers.com doesn't mention that name anywhere.

The only name I can see is Julien Clairet, based in Paris - the guy you mentioned back in December as being the owner of the trademark. This seems consistent with the fact that the page and CSS appears to have been put together by someone with a bit of a French inclination.

Or was this Julien Clairet actually involved in the 2006 company? I don't remember seeing his name come up at the time.

It will be interesting to see what they have in store.
Yes, provided it's not another case of playing on the name to sell Windows laptops, or some such nonsense.

(Noting that the site links to the Wikipedia page about Acorn with the text 'Hall of Fame' and not to the Acorn Computers 2006 page - although that's linked to from the Acorn page. TBH, to make it absolutely clear the new site isn't another attempt at using the Acorn name for generic rubbish, maybe the page maintainer ought to consider putting a link to that page, perhaps as 'Hall of Shame')

One way to get some real information is to ask, of course. That's why I sent an email this morning to the address on the web page.
We will not be selling win-tel machines and information will become available on the website when available for public release.
